Week of Sound 2026 | Film Screening - lorram

With it being the Unesco Week of Sound, I popped by the ECA for a special screening of lorram.

The documentary was entirely in Scottish Gaelic and was a lyrical portrait of fishing communities, past and present, in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides.

The film blended observational footage with archival sound recordings of stories and songs from the mid-20th century, set to an original score by folk musician Aidan O’Rourke.

At the end there was a Q&A with the director Alastair Cole who talked about the process of making the movie.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. Had some good shots of fishing and people working at the fish markets. The music went well with the voice recordings.
